In the summer of 2017 I was fortunate to have received an artist's residency in Vinalhaven Maine. Vinalhaven is off of the coast of Rockland and is Maine's largest island. During my stay I may several treks to nearby Lane's Island preserve, which had several beautiful rocky outrcrops to drink in the vistas from on high, and enjoy the peace and power of the water washing over the rocks in hypnotic rhythm.
My residency took place in mid-June, which was prime for the many varied wildflowers that were in bloom, among which were the beautiful wild rugosa roses. I painted this scene on site during my residency and completed this larger version in the studio upon my return back home.
