I painted this early one crisp fall morning at a location that is just down the road a bit from where I live in Ashland, VA. This is Hanover Vegetable Farm, where in the fall they have hay rides, a petting farm, tractor rides and of course pumpkin picking! As luck would have it, the moon was still out communing from the heavens with it’s fellow elliptical  friends down here on earth.

I was fortunate to have been invited by the Ashland Garden Club to paint en plein air during their Historic Garden Week garden tour.  I painted in a location called “The Cutting Garden” off of Mount Herman Road in Hanover County, just beyond the town of Ashland. This private property is a wonder, rambling over a number of acres. It features pasture, a man-made pond, a stream running through a woodland sanctuary,  as well as more formal gardens surrounding a pool. It was a rainy morning, but even in the rain, these gardens were so lovely that my greatest difficulty by far was not the weather, but deciding where to paint!
