About the painting:
I have always loved painting wetlands, for the way the light bounces off of the water, for the spectacular skies and clouds, and for the marsh grasses that cut beautiful meandering pathways through the water. I created this piece after a springtime trip to Kilmarnock and WhiteStone, Virginia, located on the Chesapeake Bay in an area called the “Northern Neck”. My initial visit was during an event called “Plein Air Unleashed”, a paint out hosted by Allure Art Center. I have created a number of pieces on location in this area, but this big one was done in the studio from studies and photos made on site.
