About the painting:
This painting was inspired by a plein air painting I did at on location at a private historical home on Riverside Drive in Richmond, Virginia. I am told that this garden was designed by Charles Gillette, who is pretty famous around Virginia for his formal garden designs on stately homes such as Agecroft Hall, The Virginia House, and Tuckahoe Plantation. It was really magical to paint at this location, and I enjoyed reliving the experience as translated in this larger studio piece.
